General Questions

What is LabelLight?

LabelLight is a Chrome browser extension that enhances Lightspeed Retail with custom DYMO label printing capabilities. It allows you to print product labels using your own DYMO templates directly from Lightspeed's interface.

Which browsers are supported?

LabelLight currently only supports Google Chrome. Support for other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave) may work but is not officially supported.

Which Lightspeed versions are supported?

LabelLight works with Lightspeed Retail (X-Series), previously known as Vend. It is not compatible with Lightspeed Restaurant, Lightspeed eCom, or Lightspeed R-Series (legacy).

Do I need to keep the browser open while printing?

Yes, the Chrome browser must remain open during printing. However, you can switch to other tabs or applications - the printing continues in the background.

Printer Questions

Which DYMO printers are supported?

LabelLight supports all DYMO LabelWriter models that work with DYMO Connect software, including:

  • LabelWriter 450 / 450 Turbo / 450 Duo
  • LabelWriter 4XL
  • LabelWriter 550 / 550 Turbo
  • LabelWriter Wireless

Can I use a non-DYMO printer?

No, LabelLight is specifically designed for DYMO printers and uses the DYMO Framework API. Other label printer brands (Zebra, Brother, etc.) are not supported.

Why isn't my printer detected?

If your printer isn't showing up:

  1. Ensure DYMO Connect is installed and running
  2. Check that the printer is connected via USB
  3. Verify the printer appears in DYMO Label Software
  4. Try enabling "Bypass Printer Detection" in LabelLight settings

See Error Messages for more troubleshooting tips.

What is "Bypass Printer Detection"?

Some versions of DYMO Connect have a bug where printer detection returns false even when printers are connected. Enabling this option skips the detection check and assumes your printer is available. Only enable this if your printer works in DYMO Label Software but isn't detected by LabelLight.

Subscription Questions

Is there a free trial?

Yes, we offer a risk-free trial period with all subscriptions. If LabelLight doesn't meet your needs, you can cancel during the trial period for a full refund.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your profile page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.

Can I use my subscription on multiple computers?

Yes! Subscriptions are tied to your Google account, so you can sign in from any computer. Just install the extension and sign in with your Google account to access your subscription.

What happens if my subscription expires?

If your subscription expires, you won't be able to print labels using LabelLight. The extension will prompt you to renew. Your settings and templates are preserved, so you can pick up right where you left off after renewing.

Template Questions

What label sizes can I use?

LabelLight supports any die-cut label size compatible with DYMO LabelWriter printers. Common sizes include:

  • 30252 - Address Labels (1-1/8" x 3-1/2")
  • 30323 - Shipping Labels (2-1/8" x 4")
  • 30332 - Square Labels (1" x 1")
  • 30334 - Multi-purpose Labels (2-1/4" x 1-1/4")

Can I use continuous tape labels?

Continuous tape labels are not fully tested with LabelLight. For best results, use die-cut labels with fixed dimensions.

How do I create a label template?

Use DYMO Label Software (included with DYMO Connect) to design your labels. Add text objects, barcode objects, and images, then save the file as a .label file. See Label Templates for detailed instructions.

Can I include my company logo on labels?

Yes! Upload your logo in the Branding section of settings, then include an image object in your label template. LabelLight will display your logo on printed labels.

Data & Privacy Questions

What data does LabelLight access?

LabelLight accesses:

  • Product data from Lightspeed pages you visit
  • Product data via Lightspeed API (if you configure a Personal Token)
  • Your Google account email for authentication

Is my Lightspeed data stored anywhere?

No. LabelLight processes data in your browser only. Product data is fetched from Lightspeed, used for printing, and then discarded. We do not store, transmit, or have access to your Lightspeed data.

Why do I need to provide a Personal Token?

The Personal Token allows LabelLight to fetch additional product data from Lightspeed's API. This provides access to fields like brand, supplier, and variant options that aren't available on the web page. The token is stored locally in your browser and never transmitted to our servers.

Why is Google Sign-In required?

Google Sign-In provides secure authentication for your LabelLight subscription without requiring you to create another password. Your subscription is linked to your Google account.

Lightspeed Fallback Questions

What is the Lightspeed fallback?

If LabelLight can't connect to your DYMO printer or encounters an error, you can fall back to Lightspeed's built-in label printing. This ensures you can always print labels even if there are issues with DYMO connectivity.

When does fallback occur?

Fallback can be triggered when:

  • DYMO Connect is not running
  • No printers are detected
  • API or authentication errors occur
  • You manually request Lightspeed printing from the modal

What's the difference between LabelLight and Lightspeed printing?

LabelLight uses your custom DYMO templates with full field mapping control. Lightspeed's built-in printing uses their default label format with limited customization. LabelLight gives you more control over label appearance and data.

Technical Questions

How does LabelLight communicate with my printer?

LabelLight communicates with DYMO Connect's local web service (running on port 41951). DYMO Connect then sends print jobs to your connected printer. This is the same method used by DYMO's own web printing tools.

Does LabelLight work offline?

Partially. Once you're signed in and have configured settings, the extension can print using cached data. However, initial authentication and API data fetching require internet connectivity.

Why is printing sometimes slow?

Print speed depends on:

  • Number of labels being printed
  • Complexity of your label template
  • API response time (for data fetching)
  • Your printer's native speed

Labels are processed sequentially to ensure print quality.

Can I print to multiple printers?

Currently, LabelLight prints to your selected default printer. To print to a different printer, change the selection in settings. Multiple simultaneous printer support may be added in future versions.
